This time of year always seems to remind us of our weight loss goals. Eating a big Thanksgiving meal it may feel like a diet is an appropriate action after the turkey coma has worn off. The stuffed feeling can last for days and we may feel guilty for indulging a little too much.

This made me think about what we can eat to help shed those unwanted pounds before Christmas overeating strikes.

Below are 5 foods that can help with weight loss goals and not leave us feeling like we are starving ourselves.

  1. Eggs

When it comes to weight loss goals eggs are at the top of the list of foods to eat every morning. The reason for this is the amount of protein. Eggs are an excellent source of protein and are very filling thus reducing the urge to snack later in the day. A study done of 21 men showed that when eating 2 eggs for breakfast less calories are consumed later in the day versus a breakfast of a bagel in which the study showed left them feeling hungry faster and eating more calories throughout the day.

This is good news for those wanting to lose some pounds. Eat those eggs in the morning to fill up your stomach with good protein!

  1. Avocados

The avocado is filled with lots of nutrients. It also has protein, fiber and a lot of healthy fats that are essential to being healthy.  The health benefits of eating avocados are huge.

It is also interesting to look at a study that was done on avocado consumption. The study found that the people who regularly ate avocados had healthier diets and had a lower risk of metabolic issues. In short, those who add avocado into their diet will also be choosing to eat other fruits and vegetables that are healthy. They are an indicator of how healthy a person’s diet is.

  1. Cruciferous Veggies

You may be wondering what those are. I know I did the first time I heard that. Basically those are things like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussel sprouts. These veggies are extremely nutritious and have many benefits. The one benefit they have in regards to weight loss is the fiber content. Fiber is super important to weight loss. 1 cup of cooked Brussel sprouts is the equivalent to 6 g of fiber. So eat up on that steamed broccoli!

  1. Berries

Berries are loaded with vitamins, nutrients and are flavonoid rich. When intake of delicious berries is increased it helps with weight loss goals. As with our cruciferous friends the benefits are numerous. Things like helping with inflammation, antioxidants, fiber and may even help fight cancer. With so many health benefits load up your plate with lots of brightly colored berries!

  1. Cucumbers and Celery

These two veggies are both filled with at least 95% water. Combine that with high fiber content and other various nutrients these two powerful veggies can be a very useful thing to have handy as a snack or with a meal. Make sure to not peel the cucumber. The skin is where the bulk of the fiber is located.
