Being content while staying at home
We live in such a fast face society. We are used to going and doing. Staying at home and going nowhere is a foreign concept for most of us. The stress of that can be very draining. I know that I have struggled with this but when combined with all of the issues happening in the world outside my home it can be tough. So I decided to find some answers in the Bible. When things are challenging the best place to look for answers is the Bible.
So if I told you I had a secret to overcoming those stressors would you be curious? Anytime someone tells me they have figured something out and knows a secret solution I try to pay attention. That is exactly what Paul does in Philippians chapter 4. This chapter is filled with some of my favorite verses in the Bible. In fact, I can quote much of it from memory. One verse, in particular, is a favorite of many and often quoted by many.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
It has been quoted for every kind of situation life can throw at you. That is awesome that the verse can help so many but did you know it is actually a secret solution for a specific life issue? To understand the secret we have to look at the verse before it.
Philippians 4:12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
Philippians 4:13 is the secret to being content in any situation. Contentment is not dependant on your circumstances. It is about believing that with Christ, I can do all things. The secret to endurance is Christ! The secret to contentment…is Christ.
While we are all stuck at home let’s find contentment in it. Let’s lean on Christ for the strength to find joy in this downtime when the busy of life has come to a stop. Let’s use this time to grow in our faith and allow Christ to strengthen us for everything that lies ahead.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I can be content and rest in peace no matter what the situation or circumstance. So can you!
