Hope is PowerfulHope is a powerful thing. It can propel someone to do great things or endure amazing hardships. Take hope away from someone and their will to survive may leave as well. In the life of a parent, hope is a force that can sustain you through difficult times with a child.

You don’t have to be a parent for very long to realize that the picture-perfect child you dreamed of having doesn’t exist. That child has a mind, will, and emotions all their own. From birth and into adulthood that child will make decisions. Some will be good and some will be bad. Our job is to hold onto the hope we have in Christ for the life of our child.

But what is hope? Hope is believing for something you can’t see. It is waiting eagerly for the manifestation of the promise. Not just waiting, but waiting with the expectation that at any moment what you are believing for will happen.

Romans 8:24-25

For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one also hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

Did you catch the last part about waiting eagerly? This is active waiting. It is waiting with perseverance. Perseverance means, persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Another way to say it is you don’t give up. No matter what you see you continue to eagerly anticipate what you are waiting for. It will happen and you know it.

Whatever you are trusting the Lord to do in your child’s life, cling to hope with the tenacity of a bulldog. With anticipation and perseverance wait eagerly for the fulfillment of everything that God has begun in your child’s life. Hope will not disappoint!
