Parenting Tips: PerspectiveParenting Tips

Parenting Tips so often focus on the child but they really need to start with the parent. This parenting tip is one that focuses on the parent. It is about something that many of us have already heard before so it may be more of a parenting reminder.

Perspective!

A few nights ago I went to a class in the evening and left my husband and kids at home to fend for themselves for dinner. This is not something I do very often so it was a real treat. When I came home the kitchen was a disaster. They all found something to eat and left behind a trail of dirty dishes! They were actively playing games and laughing when I returned.  My first reaction was, Ugh! What a mess! Then I reminded myself that a messy house means the people I love are in that house. They were quite busy making good memories and that was what I needed to focus on. Having 2 grown children that no longer live with us I know this time is short.

I can say the same thing about laundry. There are days when I walk into my laundry room and am overwhelmed at the vast volume of clothing in varied states of disorder! I have a wonderful folding table in my laundry room so when a load is dry it often ends up dumped on the folding table in a heap that sometimes resembles Mount Everest! And don’t get me started on SOCKS!

It can be so tempting to grumble and complain in these situations. I want to challenge you to change your perspective just a bit. A messy house means your house is filled with people you love! This doesn’t mean we have to live like slobs and never clean up. On the contrary, we need to clean up the messes so those we love can live in a clean environment. A change in perspective will allow us to clean with joy knowing we are blessed with a wonderful family.

What is your perspective? Do you find joy or do you grumble in the wake of the chaos that happens with a full house?
